How to calculate what is x% of y?
A percentage means “per hundred.” Dividing the percentage by 100 changes it into a decimal multiplier, which you then apply to the whole value.
Formula: (percentage ÷ 100) × value
- Divide the percentage by 100 to convert it to a decimal.
- Multiply that decimal by the full value.
- The result is the portion represented by that percentage.
Example: what is 15% of 200?
Convert 15% to 0.15, then multiply 0.15 by 200. The answer is 30, so 15% of 200 is 30.
